About Project Uplift
Project Uplift is a heart-led, responsive initiative dedicated to transforming the way educators support students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. Rooted in the Science of Reading, the program equips teachers with effective, evidence-based strategies using Structured Literacy and the Orton-Gillingham approach – a time-tested, multisensory method proven to help struggling readers build essential skills.
Project Uplift offers a two year professional development journey for educators who want to strengthen their understanding of reading instruction and gain practical experience working with struggling readers. Guided by certified Orton-Gillingham practitioners who serve as coaches, mentors, and facilitators, educators will receive the tools, encouragement, and expert support they need to confidently and effectively transform their students’ reading journeys.
Project Uplift believes that with the right instruction and early intervention, every child can grow into a confident, capable reader—and every educator can feel empowered to guide them there.
From caterpillar to butterfly, every learner deserves to soar.

What is your success rate?
In our pilot year, 20 teachers completed Phase One of our literacy training, and five have now completed the full two-year program – fully qualified to serve as future facilitators. This shows not only strong retention but lasting impact, as these educators are now helping grow the program from within. In our current phase, we’re reaching over 30 teachers across 15 schools in Barbados, with two local team leaders in training, a clear sign of sustainable, community-driven growth.
